SoundMatrix II is an iPhone version of the remarkable ToneMatrix Flash Application by André Michelle that allows you to compose music sequences on your iPhone. If you want you can now use your piece as a ringtone! See the info page in the application for how to do this.

Version II allows you to choose from 16 different voice tones and layer up to ten different voices on top of each other by tapping on the Title at the top of the screen. You can even record your own sounds which will be resampled by the application for use in a matrix. Also, if you find those pesky buttons too small rotate the phone for full screen mode!

The fun doesnt stop there however, compose your masterpiece and email it to your friends for them to play or submit it to our Web Gallery from where you can download the wave file and rate each others masterworks!

SoundMatrix is a 16 note sine wave sequencer. There is also a two track drum kit to bring your compositions to life. Tap on the display to add notes to the seqence. For Best results add individual notes gradually to build your composition. Tap undo remove the last notes added or shake the phone to start again. To save a composition use the email button to send it to yourself for posterity. If you name your composition it can also be uploaded to the public gallery for rating.

Best App! Keeps me occupied for hours. Makes me feel like a real musician. Should be able to save without email though. I feel guilty that its free, the creators should get paid.

I agree, one of the coolest apps out there. Reminds me of a monome. The only thing that I wish i could do is save the patterns.

Some bad moments

I have small fingers, but still those buttons are impossible to click! Also sound quality is very poor. I suggest authors to get basics done first, and then add features. Disappointing.

There were several tone matrix apps recently released and this is one of the better ones. Small .... yes .... but its on an iPhone so thats to be expected. Sound is good and this app has the option to change the tone, pitch, decay and tempo. As with most music apps it better to use your headphones as the iPhone speaker is pretty bad.

i really love andre michelles tone matrix! I wish you would make this more like his with the shiny reflections bouncing off the walls when a tone is hit. i sent a problem report before, but it was a false alarm and this app works fine on ipod touch first gen. i suggest improving sound quality and thats about all. thanks for making this free!

Its cool, but once I emailed it to all my peeps to hear, the tempo was sped ip almost double time of how I created it.

Good job man, this is really a cool app. I expect even greater things in future updates... Double the size? More drum tracks?

Since I wrote reviews for most of the tonematrixes clones i should say smth about this one too. This one is probably the best free one available but is not even close to the audio quality of Melodica and Star Melody which are paid. But for free I guess I cant really complain, but for a real tonematrix experience try the paid ones, Star Melody and Melodica, it is worth the price difference! Also the squares of this app are way too small for my fingers.
